Key 2 PARTNERS
Aly Cook & Therese McKee
Aly Cook has over 35 years experience in the entertainment industry, having toured globally with large international acts, first as a Tour Coordinator & Publicist, and later as an Event Manager on food & wine festivals, sporting fixtures, and as a Concert Promoter herself. In 1989 Aly was the Concert Organiser for Icehouse, Sharon O'Neill and Boom Crash Opera for a crowd attendance of 11,000 in Nelson NZ. This began a friendship with Sharon O'Neill which has seen her bring Sharon to NZ for concerts a number of times. This includes the 'Home Again' sold out concerts 2017 in Nelson which attracted fans from all over Australia and New Zealand. Aly has also sung backing vocals with Sharon on these concerts. She has worked on tours during the 80s and 90s in Australia, including acts like INXS, BB King, Petula Clark, Cilla Black, Pseudo Echo, through to large travelling acts like Torvill & Dean, and Michael Edgley's Moscow Circus in the 90s which played major entertainment centres across Australia, New Zealand & Taiwan.
Aly has also worked as a publicist with major acts including NZ Publicity for the Andrea Bocelli Tour in 2014, as well as ticketing and social media campaigns across Australasia for this tour, and was recently engaged as the publicist for the Tommy Emmanuel Tour in New Zealand in 2017. She has worked for major labels as a rep and managed her own label in the 80s, with distribution via Virgin, releasing Tama Renata's critically acclaimed Workshop album.
Aly is also a songwriter and recording artist herself. She has conducted songwriting seminars in NZ, taught songwriting in Schools for the New Zealand Music Commission and has been a Tutor at the Dag Sheep station Songwriter's retreat in Australia. Aly was nominated for APRA NZ Country Song of the Year in 2011, MLT songwriter finalist in 2007, was awarded New Zealand Female Country Artist of the Year in 2012 and Finalist twice in 2011 and 2016 for 'NEXT Magazine's New Zealand Woman of the Year' in the Arts & Culture section. Aly was also honoured with her inclusion in the NZ Legends of Country Music display as part of the 'Volume Exhibition' at the Auckland Museum in 2017.
With her album Horseshoe Rodeo Hotel she has had 5 x number one singles on the Australian Top 40 Country Tracks Chart as well as number ones on the International Indie Country Chart and Tasmanian independent Country Chart where she was also awarded Tasmanian International Artist of the Year in 2017 at the TICMA awards.
She has self-booked and arranged a number of tours to Europe including festivals in the UK, Norway, Poland, Italy and France having shared the stage there with Wanda Jackson, Rosanne Cash and Laura Bell Bundy. In 2016 with her band she opened the Summer Concert at Taupo performing before 20,000 people as the opening act for Melissa Etheridge, REO Speedwagon and Huey Lewis & the News. Both of her albums have spent time on the official NZ Album charts with her latest album 'Horseshoe Rodeo Hotel' spending 6 weeks on the chart reaching number #8. Her album HorseShoe Rodeo Hotel produced 5 no#1 singles, with her song Western Line' spending 6 weeks at no#1 and being named Song of the Year on the Top 40 Country Tracks Chart for airplay in Australia.
In 2017 Aly put together a TV show called Kiwi Country TV. Still in development, the show screens twice weekly on Keep it Country TV in the UK and Europe.
Therese, on the other hand, was seeking a change after a lengthy career in teaching. She had been a front singer in a band in her younger years and considered revisiting music as a career. After approaching Nicki Gillis to hone her singing skills, Therese found herself pulled into the music business side of the industry, working alongside of Nicki for 2 years at Lockhouse Productions. Therese assisted Nicki with show logistics, photography, merchandising, marketing and social media. It was there that Therese realised her passion for promotion and publicity, which led on to her completion of a Business Management course, and the setting up of her own business 'Key2 Artist Promotions'.
In 2014 Aly met Therese McKee online. Therese was wowed by a music video that she had just seen by NZ artist Aly Cook and Aly was looking for someone to represent her in Australia. Aly knew through her experience that it's always important to have someone other than yourself representing your music. Soon after this Therese became Aly Cook's Australian PR and Agent with Key2 Artist Promotions.
With a background in teaching with 20 years experience, Therese had the perfect literary and grammar skills required in copy-writing, biography composition and press release creation. Aly saw in Therese the potential to become an amazing publicist and PR and set about helping her to attain the skills she desired to make a mark on the music industry. As another string in her bow, Therese had completed a design course at the prestigious Sydney Institute of Technology Design Centre where she was one of only 30 selected in Australia. This has given her a great eye for graphics and design in artist presentation and has lead on to her becoming an Art Director on music videos with Paul Denham Imagery. Therese's background as an Executive Teacher, Staff Supervisor and Project Co-ordinator have also meant great organisational and communication skills have been brought to the table.
It was a natural progression for Aly & Therese to join forces as business partners and so the new Key2 Artist Promotions partnership was born.
